The Best Movies And TV Shows Arriving On Netflix In July 2024

The Long Awaited Sequel To Beverly Hills Cop, The Last Season Of Cobra Kai, Two Iconic Trilogies & More

Back To The Future (1986-1990)

One of the most acclaimed movie trilogies of all time is coming to Netflix on July 1. Back to the Future began in 1986 with the original movie kickstarting Marty McFly and Doc Brown’s time-travel adventures. Though many the first installment to be a perfect film from beginning to end and even if the following two sequels don’t quite reach that level, they are still hugely enjoyable movies that take the franchise in fun directions.

From stepping into the future to going back to the Old West, the three Back to the Future movies made the most of their time-hopping setup. While there are always excited calls for a remake or reboot of Back to the Future, keeping this franchise at three entries allows it to stand up as one of the greatest trilogies ever made. Luckily, Netflix users can revisit the three-part ride through time in July.

Lost (2004-2010)

While Netflix has its own collection of intriguing original shows, it is also known for including entire series of some popular series that are no longer on the air. One of the biggest shows for the platform to acquire will be debuting in its entirety on July 1. Lost is the ground-breaking mystery series featuring a massive cast in the story of a plane crash that leaves a group of strangers stranded on an island that is more than it seems.

For six seasons, Lost gripped viewers with one reveal after another. While it is a show that is criticized for having more questions than answers, it is also an engrossing thriller and a wonderful ensemble piece. As interesting as the mysteries are many standout characters on the show and great performers who bring them to life. Fans can revisit the show along with new viewers ready to get hooked when Lost arrives on July 1.

Spider-Man Trilogy (2002-2007)

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies were hugely influential additions to the superhero genre, paving the way for the MCU years later. Tobey Maguire took on the role of the first big-screen version of Peter Parker, who becomes the amazing wall-crawling hero. Along with the movies exploring his romance with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), they also feature some classic villains from the comic books, including Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Venom.

While Sam Raimi, known mostly for his Evil Dead movies, seemed like a strange choice, his visual style and sense of humor were all over the trilogy, making it a charming, exciting, and crowd-pleasing ride. The first movie was seen as a spectacular origin story. Spider-Man 2 is still regarded by some as one of the greatest superhero movies of all time. Though Spider-Man 3 earned a mixed response, it has been reevaluated as a risky and fun take. Fans can revisit their ranking on their own when Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy arrives on Netflix on July 1.

Suits: Season 9 (2019)

While Suits never reached the heights of popularity as Lost when it was on the air, it has surprisingly become one of the most popular shows in the streaming world. The legal drama followed a young reckless yet intelligent aspiring lawyer who cons his way into a prestigious New York City law firm and is swiftly taken under the wing of one of the most successful and daring counselors in the city.

The show’s procedural element, tackling different cases each week, makes it a fun show to binge-watch. While it was a successful title on Netflix throughout 2023, it was missing one aspect until now. July 1 will mark the arrival of the ninth and final season of Suits on Netflix. Now those who have been waiting can finally see the end of the series ahead of the upcoming Suits spinoff series.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)

Eddie Murphy returns to his most iconic role on July 3. Murphy cemented himself as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood with his role in Beverly Hills Cop as Axel Foley, a tough and mischievous Detroit cop who travels to the posh and high-end world of Beverly Hills to investigate the death of his friend. A stunning 40 years after the original movie, Axel is back and heading back to Beverly Hills when his daughter’s life is threatened.

With the movie leaning into the R-rating in its delivery of action and comedy, it will be a thrill to see Murphy back in this role he was born to play. He will also be joined by a number of the franchise’s other veterans, including Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, and Bronson Pinchot. It will also include many newcomers, including Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon.

Vikings: Valhalla (2022-2024)

The thrilling adventure series Vikings: Valhalla returns for its final season on July 11. Following the success of the series Vikings, this sequel series looked to continue on the epic story by jumping ahead 100 years later and focusing on a new generation of warriors. As popular as Vikings was, Vikings: Valhalla has been able to build its own story with its own exciting cast of characters.

Season 3 of the show will mark the end of the story with no word on the franchise continuing beyond here. Season 2 of the series ended with the three main heroes of the tale going their separate ways so season 3 is likely to see them find their way back to each other before the story comes to a close. While those familiar with the history surrounding the show can venture a guess on how things will play out, there are a lot of possibilities for what the end will entail.

Cobra Kai (2018-2025)

Another popular Netflix show will be entering its final season in July – however, this one is a lot more drawn out. Cobra Kai is another sequel series with the unexpected streaming hit following the events of the 1980s movie The Karate Kid, picking up with some of the adult characters decades later. While that has always been a fun aspect of the show, a large part of the focus has also been on the new generation of karate enthusiasts.

Cobra Kai’s sixth season will mark the end of the series and will begin airing on July 18. However, Netflix is looking to have an extended rollout of the final season to allow fans a long goodbye. July 18 will mark one of three parts to season 6 of the show, with the series set to wrap up for good sometime next year.
